This project involved the sensitive remodeling and incorporation of rear / fourth floor extensions to an existing quayside retail unit located in the North Quay Conservation Area of Douglas.
While the existing property is in a dilapidated state of repair it was however considered to be of significant historic value, providing a positive contribution to the remaining existing historic build forms located along North Quay. Hence it was required that the quayside facing portion of the this building should be retained.
In order to achieve this conservation aim, while simultaneously resulting in an economically viable solution, a new rear extension and forth floor extension providing views of the Quay over the ridge of the existing property was incorporated to form a commercial / residential apartment development.
