'Eco House', Baldrine, Isle of Man

A new build house, located, designed, and constructed to minimize energy consumption using 'passive and 'active' design strategies

Status - Approved at Planning. Construction due to commence early 2010

When considering any form of 'environmentally friendly' development project the primary decision that has to be made is the target for Carbon Neutrality.

While there is an amount of 'embedded' carbon within the fabric of the building, any building will consume many times more energy during it's life time of daily use, hence it is more important to minimize the energy consumption of the building, as well as to find alternative ways of generating sustainable energy.

In order to achieve the required reduction in energy consumption for this house a combination of: 'active' design strategies, encompassing physical items of building materials and services; and 'passive' design strategies, formulated to maximize potential benefits from natural resources and individual site features / properties
