The Nunnery Stable Block & Chapel Cottage, Douglas, Isle of Man.

Status: Construction Phase Completed September 2009

This refurbishment, a conversion scheme for the Isle of Man Government’s Department of Education, provides accommodation for the Centre for Manx Studies and the Manx Heritage Foundation, as well as providing shared facilities for the use of students of the Isle of Man University, which is currently based in the main Nunnery building.

The existing building required significant, sensitive alteration and refurbishment in order to convert the Stable Block, it’s first floor apartments, and cottage into an education facility. The new facility comprises high quality: offices; meeting rooms / teaching spaces; tutor rooms; a common room; as well as storage and ancillary facilities; all designed to meet modern technological and environmental standards, while attempting to retain the original character of this 18th century property.
